Haiti
In July of 2011, North Way members served on their second mission trip to Cap Haitien,
Haiti. This trip was entrusted to 6 members from North Way and centered on serving
not only the orphans in this area but the starving families living in this impoverished
area.
Again, in partnership with the Pittsburgh Kids Foundation and Missionary Flights
International this small but mighty team lead by Paul Carter traveled to Haiti.
The team spent 7 days serving the orphans at EBAC orphanage and the newly opened
IDADEE orphanage.
The team was particularly blessed when they traveled to the IDADEE orphanage. The
plan for that day was to give the couple that parents the kids a break for a few
hours by entertaining the children. When we arrived, we found that the house mother
had traveled to Port au Prince and had left the house father and his adult sister
to care for the 11 children who were all under 3 years old. But the sister had been
injured and had gone to the hospital and the father was caring for the children
by himself. We were definitely heaven sent that day! We helped feed the children
their breakfast, some helped to fold and organize a mound of freshly washed laundry
while others played with the kids. We then helped feed them lunch and entertained
them until it was nap time at 2 pm. All the kids where ready for theirs naps – as
were we by then!
Part of the week involved shopping and purchasing food items that the team packed
into over 75 - 10 pound bags. Then, the following day the team joined three IDADEE
evangelistic teams that hiked out into the surrounding areas to deliver the bags
to families living near IDADEE. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet the Haitian
people in their homes and provide much needed food as well as to pray for the members
of the households. As a thank you for the experience, the North Way team invited
the evangelistic team members to an evening of food and fellowship at the dorm where
they were staying.

I was, and still am, new in my walk with the Lord, and one Sunday God really spoke
to me about going on the mission to Haiti. It was part of his plan that I was to
be immersed in the spirituality of the whole experience. That trip so changed my
life that I am very anxious to return. I feel as though He has some other things
in mind for me to do. And other things that I need to experience.

God had a plan for me in Haiti beyond what I thought I was going to do. I went with
an expectation of being needed and proving light to a dark world. What I learned
was there are many bright lights in Haiti. God let me see Him in the hearts of people
and left me craving the happiness that only God can bring into my own life.
